Head of Research

I specialize in the comparative study of Christian, Roman and Jewish sources from late antiquity and early Byzantium, viewing them through the lens of legal history. By applying philological and comparative methods to texts in Greek, Latin, Syriac, Aramaic and Hebrew, I seek to address questions regarding the sources, formation, and development of each of these texts individually and to reveal trends and ties between the different Mediterranean communities of late antiquity, ties that led to polemic and rejection of traditions, or their adoption, influence and preservation. Currently, I teach at the Buchmann Faculty of Law and the Department of Jewish Hisotry at Tel Aviv University.
